A man has sculpted the ultimate ‘revenge body’ after discovering his long-term girlfriend had cheated on him.
Dwayne O’Connor, 26 from Derby, dropped 3 stone 7 lbs and shed three-quarters of his body fat after taking up a punishing health and fitness regime and is now in the best shape of his life.
After discovering his girlfriend of four years was having an affair, Dwayne, who works as a fitness instructor, lost his passion for exercise and stopped enjoying his job.
‘It all started five years ago, I was a young man in a long-term relationship.
‘I was working as a local fitness instructor, I also played basketball regularly and lifted weights three times a week just to keep myself healthy and look decent.
My relationship was four years old at this point but just like most love stories, it ended in heartbreak.
‘I came to realise my partner was having an affair and once I confronted her about the situation she posted her keys through the door and said it was over.
My confidence, pride and self-worth were at an all-time low. I stopped playing basketball and l I even stopped going to the gym other than to go to work.’
Dwayne quickly began to pile on the pounds and began bingeing on junk food to help deal with the breakup.
I started to put on weight and before I knew it, I had stretch marks on my stomach and three chins. I started eating junk food on a daily basis and every time I looked in the mirror I would be disappointed in myself.’
‘Physically, mentally and emotionally I was at breaking point. My friends didn’t like to see me down, so they helped me get a few sessions back in the gym, it really did mean a lot.
In a bid to get back into shape, Dwayne completely overhauled his diet and exercise regime, using USN sports nutrition products to boost his health.
‘I was still overweight, but I was lifting five times a week getting stronger all the time and most of all I was getting my confidence back’
In just six months Dwayne managed to shed 3 stone 7 lbs and his body fat percentage had dropped from 28 percent to 7 percent.
‘Six months might seem fast but because I was a fitness instructor before the break-up, I already had a few years of training behind me, so I had a decent amount of muscle already.’
Explaining why he changed his lifestyle, Dwayne said:
‘The motivation came from the lack of control I felt in my personal love life. When a situation happens like an affair there’s not much you can do about it. You just have to sit there and let it happen
However, when it comes to self-confidence and personal development every hour is an hour where you can do something to be better than you were the previous hour. Anybody can do it they just need to be structured and consistent, have faith and work hard.
‘I went on a journey looking for progression instead of perfection and that’s where I found balance. I’m much more comfortable with myself and I try to send that positivity out to others.’
Dwayne is currently preparing for his first fitness competition; the UKBFF Men’s physique division show which takes place later this year.
